AUTUMN PLANTING GUIDE
As we spoke about earlier this month, autumn is the perfect time to get into the garden. As day temperatures cool, it means it’s much more comfortable gardening and easier on your plants and vegetables too. The soil is still lovely and warm making the transition easier on plants and allowing time for the roots to grow.
If you’re not sure what to plant in autumn, here’s a simple guide to get you started. Be sure to weed and clean out your garden before setting down new plants and crops for growth. Give your garden a good feed with a great organic fertiliser and lots of water and top up mulch. If you’re not sure whether your fertiliser is organic, visit us in store and we can let you know or recommend a healthy alternative.
What to plant in Autumn:
Autumn’s a great time to work on your vegetable patch. You can plant the following straight into your garden bed:
- Spring onions
As weather continues to cool, April and May are great months to focus on your greens.
- Asian greens (Chinese broccoli, bok choy etc.)
- Snow peas
- Broad beans
April is also a great time to plant flowers in your garden bed for extra colour and to set down bulbs to bloom in spring. Now’s the time to plant:
- Daffodil bulbs
There’s plenty to do in your garden in Autumn. Now’s the time to nourish your soil, plant new seeds and get your garden beds in great shape before the cold winter hits. If you need help with maintaining or setting up your garden, visit us in store and we’d love to help you out.
